I spent many years dreaming of travelling abroad to battle with speedy Bonefish, hard fighting Tarpon and spooky Permit but like many thought that I wouldn't be able to afford it but it is far more affordable than you might think.
Belize was the location of my trip; to be more specific Caye Caulker and since then I have gone back every year to sample it's salt water delights, growing more and more in love with the fishing, place and the people.
A former British colony Belize still has very strong links with the UK. The location for my trips is a small island about 10 miles off the coast of Belize City, deep in the heart of the Caye system that runs the length of Belize. The island has only around 800 inhabitants but benefits from a high following of travelers who find them selves returning again and again.
For those of you who wish to travel with family and want to sample more that just fly fishing there is plenty to offer the holiday goer.
Belize has some of the very best snorkeling, scuba diving and Eco tours in the world, a vast array of wildlife that includes Dolphins, Turtles, Manatees and many other species that can be seen during various tours.
Belize has a very long and interesting history and is very close to some of the most impressive Myan pyramids that date back beyond the Egyptians.
Every year I organize and run a hosted tour that can cater for up to 6 people (including my self) I am on hand through out the trip to offer advice on tackle, flies and fishing to all.
I am currently organizing a trip for 2009 and have a some places left, if you are interested in joining me on one of the greatest fishing experiences in the world or want a custom trip arranged then please fill out the form and email it to me.
Hope to see you in 2009

Ascension Bay: Grand slam capital of the world

Ascension Bay, Mexico, is the flats' fly-fishing dream. Known widely as the 'Grand Slam' capital of the world, there is no place you would rather go to try and tempt a bonefish, a tarpon and a permit all on the same day. To stop a bonefish that is speeding across the flat, then land the acrobatic tarpon, and finally tempt a permit, the most fussy fish of them all. This is the ultimate achievement in saltwater fly-fishing.
Ascension Bay is a year round fishery. The three species mentioned above are prevalent most of the year but there is also the seasonal migration of the famed giant tarpon. During the Summer and Autumn months (July - December) monster tarpon migrate though the region and the opportunity to hook a fish over a 100 lb is a distinct possibility.
Yet it is the permit and bonefish that make this place extraordinary. There is an abundance of permit on the flats and getting one of these fish to eat your fly will test your fly-fishing skills to the limit. This is what saltwater fly-fishing is all about. The bonefish are also in large numbers and it is a great destination for fly fishermen looking to experience the joys of wading the flats after these grey ghosts.
